Director, InstructorJazz, Tap, Mommy & MeAdvanced Associate III AIDT ModernAdvanced Associate III AIDT TapShannon is an accomplished and energetic teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience in Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Modern, and Kinderdance. Her training includes an Advanced Associate degree from AIDT in both Jazz and Tap, as well as training with Dance Educators of America, Dance Olympus, Dance Gala Danse, and Dupree International.In addition to teaching, Shannon has also been the Stage Adjudicator for the North Island Festival of the Arts.Shannon's dedication to her students and teaching abilities, has given her the opportunity to study dance and train with Major Hollywood faculties in Vancouver, Calgary, Phoenix, Toronto, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. These opportunities have permitted Shannon to study under such high profile names as Giordano, Hatchet, Gilbert, and Le Tang.Shannon began her dance career in Campbell River at Danette's Academy of Dance. Her years of dance training and performance skills have resulted in Shannon being the recipient of numerous local, national and international awards, which include North Island Festival of Arts, Dance Gala Danse National Finals, Dupree International, LDI Models, and Miss Canada Pageant. As well as dance training Shannon has additional experience in Musical Theatre, Acting, Singing, Modeling, and Children's work.Her exam students have been the recipients of numerous bursaries from the AIDT in Modern as well as top marks in both Tap & Modern.Shannon has a tremendous amount of experience both in teaching as well as performing and entertaining. Shannon's student's benefit greatly from her energetic style and dedication, bringing out the best in her students by strengthening technique, style, and self-confidence.

Courtny ThaneDirector, InstructorAIDT Full Associate, ModernJazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, CompetitionCourtny has established herself in the dance community for the past 19 years as a successful choreographer and instructor. Her extensive dance training encompasses the disciplines of Ballet, Modern/Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap and Musical Theatre.Courtny's life has been dedicated to her love of dance. Courtny trained daily to become a stronger more versatile dancer, and has been fortunate enough to work with many of the industry's finest choreographers. Some of these include Dana Landers, Keith Clifton, Joe Laughlin, Phinnius Newborn III, Daniel Lauzon, and the list goes on. In her youth, Courtny competed in many dance competitions and championships where she was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships. Her experience as a dancer has given her the opportunity to be a featured performer in several shows and conventions around B.C. By the age of 13 Courtny had already performed in the 1990 Grey Cup Half Time Show!

Teaching Certificate Ballet, Pointe, CompetitionDeanna Carter is a highly qualified Ballet Teacher, who has trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Modern for the past 35 years. In 1997, Deanna completed an intensive teachers training course to become a certified teacher with the Royal Academy of Dancing.Throughout Deanna's career, she has traveled across Canada, New York, and England to attend various dance conventions, summer schools, and master classes. Her experiences and exposure to International teachers and choreographers has been a great contribution to development as a teacher. For the past 18 years, Deanna has taught at various studios throughout the Lower Mainland.Deanna is very dedicated to her teaching career. She is continually up grading her technical knowledge by attending workshops and courses pertaining to the R.A.D. syllabus. This is Deanna's 11th year with CentreStage Dance and we are so honoured to have her as a part of our family. Her contribution to our studio as a teacher and mentor has been extremely positive, and we feel confident that students attending her classes will achieve great success!

Christina HebnerInstructor AIDT Advanced Associate II, ModernJazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, CompetitionChristina has had a passion for dance since the very young age of 3. From her very first dance class at CentreStage, who would have thought Christina would have gone from jumping around as tigger in "Winnie the Pooh" to dancing professionally on a cruise ship sailing around the Caribbean. During her 18 years of dance, Christina has enjoyed learning ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, and hip hop from CentreStage Dance, Harbour Dance Centre, and numerous conventions, such as Mr. Yuval Beck's tap and jazz workshops, Triple Threat, and LA Danceforce, where she won her first scholarship at the age of 12. Christina has shown a wonderful flare for the Performing Arts over the past years at competitions all around the Lower Mainland.Christina has completed her Advanced AIDT exams in both Jazz, and Tap with high marks. She is now completed her Full Associates in the jazz program and will continue on to obtain her Advanced Associates in the next few years.Over the past 14 years, Christina has successfully attended many auditions, and performed for numerous choreographers from around the world. Dancing for the Vancouver Ravens was her first professional job and she stayed with them during their 2002 and 2003 seasons, in which she performed for a TV. special on MTV Canada. Christina then went on to dance for the BC Lions Dance Team and on The Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines where she worked with renounced choreographers Jeremy Plumber (LA) and Sarah Davies (England). Over the past few years, Christina has dedicated her time to her students all over the lower mainland. Her numbers have done extremely well in competitions and festivals, receiving "High Score" and "Choreography" awards.Christina continues to share her talents with all her students that she enjoys working with so much.

Amanda GriffinInstructorAIDT Advanced Associate III, ModernJazz, Modern/Contemporary, CompetitionFor the past 23 years, dance has been a very important part of Amanda's life. Her years of dance have included studying in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary and Hip Hop. Amanda's desire to perform has also given her the opportunity to compete successfully in many dance competitions in groups, duos, and solos.In June 2008, Amanda successfully completed her advanced jazz exam in the AIDT syllabus. By completing the exam, Amanda began an intensive training programme and attained her Teachers' certification in the AIDT Advanced Associate receiving "Honours With Distinction".Amanda has shown her dedication to dance and has been teaching for 11 years with CentreStage Dance. Attending workshops and conventions with high profile teachers has elevated Amanda's dance and performance skills. Amanda has a wonderful, caring quality and continues to encourage and inspire her students to share in her love of dance.

Keren Chevere PerezInstructorLatin, Salsa, ZumbaKeren Chevere Perez was born and raised in a small town in Puerto Rico. Exposed from an early age to all forms of Latin rhythms, she was raised dancing in its most indigenous form to Salsa, Merengue, and African influenced dances. When she was only eight, she began her training at a local ballet academy. Her passion for dancing grew stronger as time went by, and she was determined to follow her dreams of one day becoming a dancer.In 1997, she moved to Canada where she found a new love and respect for Salsa. She then began training with Nestor de la Zerda, a high profiled Latin instructor and founder of the World Salsa Congress in Vancouver BC. Her passion for Salsa and Latin Ballroom became such that she invested all her energy and savings privately training with some of the best Latin Dance instructors that Vancouver has to offer. In 2000, Keren did her training as a certified aerobics instructor at Douglas College. With her background in dancing, she wanted to change to way workouts were done and created the Latin Craze Workout, influenced by traditional aerobic exercise and a blend of different forms of Latin dances such as Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha, Mambo, Samba, among many others. In 2004, she had the honour of performing in front of thousands of people in a routine she herself had choreographed for Canada Place for Canada day. Over the past five years she has been teaching various levels of salsa as well as ballroom dancing, choreographing and on the occasion performing as well.Keren is proud and honoured to have been invited to join CentreStage Dance team and her love and everlasting passion for dancing continues to flourish. Her future goal is to bring her passion to the Vancouver Salsa Congress with CentreStage Dance, and to share her love for Latin Dance with people of all ages and levels. This is Keren's 4th year teaching with CentreStage Dance.

Laura has been dancing with CentreStage Dance since the age of six. Her training over the years has included Tap, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical, and Ballet. Laura has achieved Honours and Honours with Distinction in many of her AIDT Tap and Jazz exams. She student taught at CentreStage Dance for three years in Tap, Jazz, and Tap Exam, and has volunteered at the year end recitals and the studio’s first open house. Laura is currently in her second year at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, working towards her Bachelor’s of Journalism. She was placed on the Dean’s academic honour roll for both the fall 2010 and spring 2011 semesters, achieving a high grade point average.Laura is now a part of the front desk staff and is enjoying the greater involvement she has with the studio. This is Laura’s second year as a part of the CentreStage teaching faculty, and she is thrilled to keep sharing her love of dance with her students.

Natasha CaldwellInstructorA.R.A.D.Creative, Ballet, CompetitionNatasha has been a part of CentreStage Dance since the age of 4 months while her older sister attended dance classes. Natasha was dancing before she was talking. She begun dancing at the age of three and has never looked back. Natasha has enjoyed learning Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Modern, Hip Hop, Acro, and Tap. Natasha has attended many dance conventions and competitions such as Dance Power, Peak, Shine, Surrey Festival, Coquitlam Festival, Triple Threat and Extreme Dance in Vancouver and Las Angeles.Natasha has been awarded many gold medals and high scores, as well as judges' choice awards during these competitions for solos, duos, and groups. Natasha has also danced at the Royal City Youth Ballet performing in the Nutcracker. During the summer of 2006, Natasha attended the Royal Winnipeg ballet training in many different styles.Natasha has completed her Grade 8 and Intermediate RAD Ballet exams, receiving highest marks and is working on her Advanced 1 with the intentions of completing her Solo Seal Exam. She has also completed her Intermediate AIDT Modern exam also receiving highest marks and is working to finish her final exam in the spring.In the summer of 2010, Natasha was accepted into the Alberta Ballet School where she trained for the course of the summer.This year Natasha has been accepted into, and will be training with the pre-professional program at the Arts Umbrella in Vancouver. Natasha is very excited to start her third year as an instructor teaching and inspiring her students and sharing her love of dance with them.We all look forward to having Natasha back as a part of the staff here at CentreStage Dance.

Shelagh DyerInstructorAIDT Associate I, TapCreative, Ballet, JazzShelagh has been attending CentreStage Dance since she was 5 years old. Over the years at CentreStage, Shelagh has trained in Tap, Jazz and Ballet. Shelagh has successfully completed AIDT exams for both Tap and Jazz.Shelagh is now an associate in Tap and completed her exam in June 2008.Shelagh has participated in many competitions and festivals throughout the lower mainland competing in both tap and jazz and receiving several awards in both. Shelagh has also attended conventions here in BC and has taken classes with numerous highly trained choreographers.Having a passion for dance and working with children, Shelagh is looking forward to her fourth season here at CentreStage Dance!

She has trained in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Acro, Modern and SalsaPaige has completed her AIDT exams in Tap and Jazz with “Honours” and “Honours with Distinction.” Paige has also completed her R.A.D. grade eight award in Ballet as well as doing her Intermediate at the vocational level.Throughout Paige’s years at CentreStage Dance, she has competed in many competitions and festivals in B.C., Alberta, Ontario and California. She has received numerous high score awards in groups, duos and solos as well as receiving numerous scholarships with Conventions such as Triple Threat and Extreme Dance. These scholarships have allowed Paige to train further with high profiled choreographers and strengthen her dance ability. Paige has danced in the Royal City Ballet’s Nutcracker performing all over the lower mainland. Paige has also received numerous acting roles over the years including voice work in the TV series “The Adams Family” and McKids “Get Up And Go”. Paige has performed and coached The Pitt Meadows Secondary School Dance Team. For the 2010 season, Paige was chosen by Extreme Dance Conventions to be an apprentice. Paige assisted and demonstrated for world-renowned choreographers all around North America. In 2010, Paige also performed in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as the IOC Gala and then finished off with the Vancouver 2010 Paralympics Opening Ceremonies. In the summer of 2009 and for the summer of 2010 Paige danced in the Pacific National Exhibition Pyrotechnic night show “Kaboom”. This summer Paige could be seen at the P.N.E. as Casey Bear, the star of the Casey Bear Jam Show as well as dancing in the new night show "Pop City"!This past year Paige graduated from university with her SETA Certificate (Special Education Teacher Assistant) for assisting the Special Needs Classes here at CentreStage DanceThis is Paige’s fourth year as part of the CentreStage Dance faculty. She is excited to share her passion, and love of dance with her students and looks forward to a career as a dance instructor.

Melissa LairdInstructorAIDT Associate I, TapJazz, Hip Hop, Tap, CompetitionMelissa's dance training has spanned many disciplines including Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Tap, Modern, Stage and Tango. Training recently in Vancouver, Los Angeles, London and New York, Melissa's dance career has allowed her to travel all over the world and she is very excited to bring her experience and passion back to her students. Most recently, Melissa was on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines "Brilliance Of The Seas" traveling throughout Europe and Africa, Previously Melissa danced on Royal Caribbean's "Freedom Of The Seas" throughout The Eastern and Western Caribbean. Melissa was also a dancer for Carnival Cruise Lines "Inspiration" In Mexico and the Caribbean. In addition to her professional experience at sea, Melissa has also gained valuable dance experience on land, in 2005 Melissa was chosen to tour throughout Afghanistan and Dubai on a Canadian Forces Show Tour for which she also was a choreographer. Melissa has also performed extensively throughout Vancouver where she was a dancer for The BC Lions dance team "The Felions", a company dancer with "The Source Dance Company" and "Ruckus" Dance Company. She has performed in such events as The American Bowl featuring the Backstreet Boys, Imagine 2010 Olympic Celebration, BC Buzz Media, MTV Canada, FMA Awards Show, Fashion Rocks Gala with Bobby Bruce, World Peace Awards Show and many more. Melissa has also gained valuable acting experience; training with the Vancouver Film School, Melissa has also performed in Various television and film productions such as The X Files, Millennium, Stargate and Divinici's Inquest. Melissa's has been teaching dance for the past 9 years, completing her AIDT Tap certification receiving "Honours With Distinction" and RAD Anatomy and Pedagogy training. As a former dancer and instructor at CentreStage Dance, Melissa is very happy to return to her greatest love, teaching. This past fall Melissa began her Bachelor of the Arts in Elementary Education and looks forwards to sharing her knowledge with her students. This is Melissa's third season back at CentreStage Dance.

Samantha FrenchInstructorSpecial Needs ClassesSamantha has been dancing since she was 2 1/2, joining CentreStage Dance at the age of 7. Over the years, she has studied a number of styles including jazz, lyrical, ballet, hip-hop and Irish. Today as an adult, Samantha continues to train at CentreStage Dance. Samantha has been extensively involved in the special needs community, linked primarily through her special needs brother. She has taught to elementary schools and special needs groups through the Vancouver School Board as well as the Salsbury Simon Fraser Society. Samantha has also done extensive research through her Bachelor of Arts on integration, and teaching for special needs individuals. She is currently completing a Masters thesis on the coping and resiliency benefits of dance. Samantha loves working with her special needs friends. It is their individual spirit, and fun attitude that drives her to work harder, to create an equal environment where fun is paramount and creative activity can be enjoyed.This is Samantha's third season working with CentreStage Dance, and we are proud to have her as a part of our faculty.

InstructorJazz, Tap, Lyrical, BalletAt the age of six, Sarah began dancing at CentreStage Dance. She started with Tap and progressed into adding Jazz, Ballet, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Modern. Sarah has completed her A.I.D.T. Tap and Jazz exams, finishing both with Honors with Distinction. Throughout her dance training, Sarah competed in many competition and dance festivals representing CentreStage Dance. She has competed all throughout the Lower Mainland and in Los Angeles, receiving numerous high score medals in solos, duos, and groups. Sarah has attended many dance conventions in B.C. learning from top choreographers from around the world. In 2001, she received a scholarship for her hard work and performance ability. A few years later, she received an award for standing out in a convention class with hundreds of dancers. This past year Sarah was one of the talented dancers chosen to perform in the Opening Tap number for the Olympic Ceremonies! Sarah has taken in the experiences and opportunities given to her, and is excited to share them with her students. We all look forward to having Sarah as a part of the staff here at CentreStage Dance. This will be Sarah's third year teaching for CentreStage Dance.

Instructor, Ballet, Hip HopKayla started dancing when she was 3 years old in Maple Ridge. She has loved training in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, and Lyrical. Kayla has attended many dance conventions and competitions, including Coastal Dance Rage, Extreme Dance in both Vancouver and Los Angeles, Peak, Dance Power, and Shine. She started as an assistant teacher for ballet, and she is the main teacher for CentreStage Dance's Groovy Girl' and 'Princess' birthdays. As well as teaching, she is one of our receptionists who greets you with a smile when you walk through the door. Pitt Meadows Secondary School was privileged with a Cheerleading team in fall of 2003 when Kayla began there. She loved being on the team and showing her school spirit. The team attended many local competitions as well as nationals and received numerous metals and trophies. Along with the school spirit of the Cheerleading team, Kayla was part of the group of girls that started and maintained the Pitt Meadows High School Dance team in fall 2004. She was on both of these teams all throughout High School; she still managed to take many dance classes, and leave High School with Honours and Top Awards.Kayla has done some modeling in the past for the local swimsuit store 'Mico's', as well as a bridal store in Surrey. Along with these shows, Kayla has been a hair model numerous times and has modeled at the West Coast Women's Show in Abbotsford this past year.In fall of 2009, Kayla earned a spot on the Vancouver Giants Dance Team. She dances at home games and makes appearances at golf tournaments and car shows for Vancouver Giants promotions. She is continuing on the team this year and is giving the players and fans 100% support and enthusiasm.Kayla has completed up to her Grade 8 Award ballet exam, and is working on the Intermediate Jazz exam. Doing the Teachers exam for Jazz is also in Kayla's future.Not just being a major fan of the Olympics, Kayla was selected to perform at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony. She was part of the biggest 'flash (dance) mob' ever!Kayla is very excited to share her love of dance with her students, and is continuing to make the birthday kids, their friends, and family have the best birthday of their childhood years.
