Amani Agbonkhese
Instructor: Jazz
Amani was born and raised in Coquitlam, BC and started dancing at the age of four. Her love for the artform grew in kindergarten, when she joined a Musical Theatre program, and went on to perform in several musicals. Eventually, Amani wrote and produced three of her own from 2018-2020. These experiences planted the seed of her passion for dance, choreography, and teaching. In 2021, she joined the Centrestage Dance family, where that seed took root. Since then, she has trained in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, and Choreography.
Over the past five years, Amani has enjoyed competing locally in a group and as a soloist. She regularly receives “judges’ choice” awards and has also received a number of scholarships to conventions and workshops. She has volunteered as an assistant teacher at both CentreStage Dance and finds joy in seeing her students grow in their love of dance and forming connections with one another.
She has completed her A.I.D.T. (Association of International Dance Teachers) exams always receiving top marks with distinction and received the 2026 Margaret Klaric Major Bursary for outstanding performance in her Advanced modern exam. She was one of only two dancers in Canada to receive this award. She also received a score of distinction on all her vocational R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance) exams and has most recently completed Advanced Foundations.
Recently, Amani has studied choreography at the Bez Arts Hub half-day program where she explored the elements, principles, and history of Contemporary dance and performed in two self-choreography shows. She is excited to share her creative and versatile choreography with her students and inspire them to grow in their own unique styles.
